denvercalc

The Community Active Living Coalition gathered at Sun Valley Youth Center on February 12, 2025 featuring a walking/rolling/bike group planning workshop. The meeting was collaborative with coalition members contributing stories and feedback in person and virtually.

To start the meeting we watched a video from America Walks and their Walk2Connect program and talked through the key considerations when starting a walking or biking group, including the 2 T’s and 4 P’s: Time and Terrain, Place, Pace, Preparedness, and Program (theme/topic).

Next, coalition members shared their experiences in starting walking and biking groups: how Fems & Thems were able to expand to 6 leads and plan a century rides with Micro-Grant funds, and how Allen Cowgill started and continues to organize the Brown Bike Bus in Sloan’s Lake.

Representatives from Bird joined and shared that they are working to engage community, expand parking stations and docking systems, and reduce sidewalk riding in Denver. Bird also shared their plans to expand in the Montbello, Green Valley Ranch, and Denver Tech Center neighborhoods.

In closing, staff read a poem by CALC’s very own, Christian Steward, and 2 raffle winners were selected for a free bike mechanics class from Lucky Bikes.
